Hi Tim, I came across your interesting information on the McCarten family today (I am not sure I have not stumbled on it before now)!
I am sure our lines are linked in some way. My Great, great, grandfather was Patrick OH McCartan. There is a headstone in the old Clanvaragh graveyard that he had erected for his wife Rosa (Murray) and her parents Daniel and Mary Murray of Slievenisky.
Patrick and Rosa had 2 daughters, who were baptised in Castlewellan.
I have death notices for Patrick, he died in1882 in New York. He was naturalised in 1855, having applied for his passport in 1850, this application was witnessed by a Neil Murray.
I think the O’H may have stood for O’Hare, but have yet to do more research. His work was at the New York Produce Exchange – McCartan and Logan Lighterers.

I am sure there must be some connection?
